Handing over client work when someone is away
Cover only works when the history lives on the task, not in someone's head or DMs.
Someone takes a week off. A client asks a question. Three people have three different answers, and none of them is sure which file was the approved one.
That is the real cost of context living in chat threads and personal drives. Holiday cover is the stress test that reveals it.
Write for the person who was not there
Every comment and file should assume the next reader was offline when the decision happened. That is not bureaucracy. It is how you make absence survivable without a briefing call that eats the first morning back.
- Decisions go on the task, with the reason, not only in the chat that happened to be open.
- The current file attaches to the work it belongs to — not a Drive folder named Final_v7.
- Who is waiting on whom is a column or a clear status, not a memory.
Handover is a habit, not a document
A handover doc written the night before leave is always incomplete. The useful version is continuous: the board already says what is open, blocked, and waiting. The person covering opens the client and can start.
What Flowcove is for here
Comments, internal notes and files sit on the task. Activity history records moves and reassignments. Cover does not start with a phone call — it starts with the same board everyone else uses.
